Chapter 10&11


Chapter 10 discusses on extra forms of technologies that can help teachers come up with alternative ways of teaching for students who need or who are familiar to a different way of learning. Since there are so many different learners in the classroom the accommodations have to be made in order to success for all students and to have new effective learning. These accommodations have to be design because no teacher has the time to design individual material for every student every day. According to chapter 10 teachers can adjust their curriculum and instruction to find every student benefits. Not all students learn the same of course. so teacher to use different instructional(DI) and universal design for learning (UDL). Using DI and UDL with students to achieve each student interest in ways that will engage the multiple learning style, to give the students many ways to understand the information and to offer appropriate challenge. Redesign and design classroom environment and change the ways curriculum delivered are important to improve the student learning.

Technology is the greatest assistive tool available to teachers to support all learners. some students struggle in school to find connections between academic content and their experiences. the teachers can use technology to make material become more accessible. However, Technology assistive comes in many forms to promote learning success for many different students. especially, assisting students with disabilities. One point in the chapter I found it interesting that technology help student to write confidently by allowing students to revise, edit, draft, and publish all in one document. Furthermore, technology provide for students to check their spelling and grammar.

Chapter 11 emphasize about the assessment in teaching and learning.in addition, the chapter 11 shows Three interrelated elements of assessment are: new teacher assessment, student assessment, and student self-assessment. SO, the technology plays important role to assess student and teacher’s performance since it displays in the actual real-word learning they have experience in school. Table 11.1 shows a comparison chart of types of performance evaluation of students and teachers.

The chapter illustrate the digital portfolio that is “a collection of educational materials stored in an electronic format such as a CD-ROM, website, or computer file” – which means that students can save their work to a disk, a CD, or a web page.

 A digital portfolio has some advantages and disadvantages. Some advantages of digital portfolios are that they are accessible, portable, creative, show technological self-confidence, and community. Some disadvantages of digital portfolios are that they require knowledge and skill, can sometimes need professional support, can sometimes use expensive equipment, takes more time and energy to create, need for increased viewer skills and equipment, and the presentation distracts away from the content. I think a digital portfolios require a large time and effort from me as teacher, but it has meaningful effective to growth and development me as teachers and student learning over time. I believe allowing students to creating portfolios can give students the voice in education make-decision.
I liked how online survey involve students to become in the assessment process because without student involvement, the student will just receivers, which effect student’s learning efficiency. Using participate system is a good way to encourages actively all students to participate that can lead student to understand more the academic materials and stored in the long-term memory. Also, it helps student to assessment them self to know their mistakes and learn from these mistakes.

Chapter 7&8 reflection


Technology offers powerful support for promote inquiries learning, problem solving skills, and sharing ideas especially when teachers practice website education in classroom. I think teachers are responsible for integrating technology into curriculum in order to promote student’s achievements. In chapter 7 shows the teachers what types of software, the standard of software application, and what a good software that teachers can use in education. Furthermore, open source software is allowing students to read what others have written and they can share their writing.

I believe chapter 7 helped the teachers to identify many ways to evaluate the soundness of the software. In addition, I agree that using video games in learning will increase student’s motivation and capture student’s attention. Conversely, I disagree with chapter 7 when is mention the negative impact of video games on student behaviors. From my experience as a video games player: 1) video games improved my English language skills. 2) helped me to escape from the pressure of life. For example, one time I had bad day at school instead of crying or being depressed I played  Ps2 to forget what happened that day .3) Playing video games may also help children develop problem-solving skills. I think if the parents of the child teach them child these things in the video games are not real, the child won’t be affected by violent video games.

However, there is a big different between a games for education and games for entertainment. The games for education allow students to go through process that requires the students to make decision. After that the games give them feedback and reflect on their decision. Chapter 7 demonstrate strategies for teachers to use these games with students. I think it is beneficial to give the teachers better view of how to use these games. Tutorials systems displayed pictures and videos to teach students basic skills and new information. I feel tutorial is a good way to improve students learning individuals because it gives instruction and feedback.

Today education encourage students to communicate with peers and with teachers by using technology communication tools. Chapter 8 illustrate for teacher multiple technology communication tools to have the appropriate tools to support teachers teaching.  I believe when teachers involve social network in classroom they send a message for student how to interact with people around them and how to see the world from different views.

Chapter 8 shows why teacher should use electronic communications to have better learning. use electronic communications is “communication allows transmission of message or information using computer systems, fax machine, e-mail, tele or video conferencing and sate lite network “by MEAM Editorial Team.

Email and instant message give the teachers the opportunity to contact with students outside the school, with families, professional, and colleagues. I think email is the perfect tool for communication because it has many advantage for teacher and student rather than other tools. On other hand, creating blogs and website for learning can have positive outcomes: 1) help students to improve their writing skills. 2) give the students the freedom to publish their writing for everybody can see and share their experience.

Wiki is powerful tool for group to collaborate. I think I will apply it with my students because we can work together to create wikitext depend on the curriculum content. So, my students will have better understanding of curriculum content.

Capter #6 reflection / 7266 edu


In recent years the internet-beads deployment rapidly and now almost everyone can easily access to information so, we have to managing information that can include organize, storing, and curriculum resources. In the chapter talk about bookmarking, social bookmarking, and information alerts , When I read every one of them I found these information is old for me specially bookmarking ,but I don’t know about that social bookmarking allows us to create public list can everyone to see and  to be part of community . Also, I don’t know there is such like Google alert I think is useful to know about what is the new information online

Building my own standard connector to have powerful learning. I think when the teacher build her own standard connector she will help her student to build unforgettable learning experience and help the teacher to located and store web-based academic through curriculum framework.

There are many ways to engage and interaction student learning and one of these way is webquests I think is creative to design webQuests because it guide student to assess and search for academic information . So, the classroom will be active. When I read about virtual field trip and video conference and how can take the students from all over the word without leaving the classroom and how professional can talk with student through internet, I thought why we can development this method and see things we cannot see usually. For example, what happens inside our body or see what happens under the earth by using technology.

I understand that teacher can use education web-based as source of internet-based digital content to teach K-12 learning curriculum and can present excellent website to interactive, exploring their own question by self-direction, engaging student with materials through mysteries, stories, and controversial issue.

When I finished from the reading I realized that we need to know more about education websites and other online resources in higher learning to improve teaching practice and help student to development the understanding of their learning.

 

Chapter # 5 / 7266 edu


The existence of the internet in schools make the learning enjoyable and active because internet a richer information that serve topics learning. Teachers and students can be able to access web-based resource to help them finding information for doing learning task but not all information in the we-based can be trust. So, how can we protect our children to read untrusted information? According to the chapter we should teach our students to assess resource and materials they found it online, in the TV, or reading newspaper and Magazine to analyze and interpret materials. In other words, to be able to do information literacy. Also, before using and present online information to student, teacher see if it trusted and reliable or not.

Now days, almost all school and classroom able to access into the web-based and that can give area to learn new information processing skills to retrieval and assessment information. I think teacher should develop information and media literacy skills start with first level grade to prepare today’s generation for future to assist the economic growth and better education, and to live and work successfully. So, our students need to know the basic competencies of reading, writing, analyzing, and solving problem by knowing new technology-based literacy for learning and working in the modern world.

“Let me try “I agree with this sentence because it allows students to learn from them mistake and learn to learn dependably to affect more on students learning. I think is better than taking lecture in class or doing worksheets assignment .So, integrate technology-based activities help internal learning.

I know now that search engines saves time and effort to retrieval information because it is speed, and able to located topic – related website. So, teacher and students can find specific academic information by typing words and phrase in keywords to locate matching web pages. After that teacher and students can save and organize written materials by taking electronic note.

I read in the chapter that Google’s system is the most popular online searching in the world and is very useful for many things, I agree with that I use it every day. When I became a teacher I will search with my students to inspiring them knowledge and teach them how to search for information , but before doing that as teacher I have first to sort through masses  of material to present what web pages is good for helping students to learn? . If teacher found unappropriated web site for students she might block ,censorship, filter, partitions ,labels or critical reading it because some website content informing that focus on incomplete, misinformation, harmful information, poorly organized , trivial information .Also , we do not now who is the writer that behind the screen . We need strategies to evaluate internet information.

The most interesting part in this chapter for me is recognize the URL because finally now I know what dose these symbol means (com, org, gov, net, edu, and mill).  Plagiarism is popular among students because it is easy and fast to do homework .So , I Think we have to reduce it by giving homework depend on thinking and solving problem .

Reflection of creating and shearing information with multimedia technology


The connection between Technology and education this days are very strong. Every teacher prefer to use multimedia technology that help the teacher to do his job more easily and put the spirit of enjoyment in the class and makes the lesson more effective. At the beginning of chapter nine mention example of using camera for design film and photo in a history class, is an interesting way to understand and memorize the lesson. also, I think it is better than lecture the history event or see it in video form YouTube .i remember I have seen a movie long time ago  but I do not remember the name of the movie . in the movie there a teacher who want to explained the first war world .so, he decided to let students act  it  like they are really in the war .as result students will remember the events for long period of time ,but I prefer if the teacher in the movie record it to review the events .

I agree when teacher uses multimedia technology in class because that will promote teaching and learning, it help information contact. When teacher combined between tow tools in the lesson we called that Multimedia and if the teacher use one tool in class that called single- mode, but multimedia is more interactive.

Using PowerPoint in teaching is useful for student who do not concentrate in class because it contents pictures, video, and sound display on large screen. PowerPoint is the most used in the world. to present we have to know what we want from student to learn  and  this goal is  achieved by use visual text generate class discussion-promote visual analysis of discussion topic- display question or comments for short writing assignment-use the slides attention –develop  your own PowerPoint learning .All these things help discussion in class .So, student can control of PowerPoint he can play or pause the slideshow to see each movement of the presentation and they can design them own PowerPoint to encourage the creative of the students .

I believe Using video in class has a significant effect on students learning because it attract students to become participant in classroom not just scenes .moreover,  the videos always available in school, abundance of resources, gain student experience, and allowed to know what happened from changes in the environment around us .i will combine technology in my class to have interactive lessons.

I understand that to have experience, unforgettable learning, and to become creator of visual I should use camera to take photo and make movie regularly and I can make to my student in kindergarten alphabet book to help to read and write.

In the end of the chapter was talked about podcasts and vodcasts as tool for teaching. I was surprised to know that we can use them to listen missing class by putting the podcast in the website and another examples was mention in the chapter. I think podcast better than video when students use them because with podcast students become comfortable with talking.

Chapter #3 reflection / EDU-7266


                                             Reflection of developing lesson with technology

According to chapter overview “ How teachers plan, deliver, and assess lesson that engage students and teacher academic content while integrating into all aspect of lesson development”. I agree with this sentence, integrate technology to develop lesson can increase the technological skills of teachers to know the educational concepts and help the teacher to change the old ways of teaching. So, when the teacher change his method to become convoy of these days by using technology. In other hand, it could be that teachers are able to use technology, but sometimes they have a weak plan in teaching and this is not helpful in terms of students because that will distract students and the objectives of the activity won’t be in clear vision for students. Nowadays, education have changed from a lecture or assess and evaluates students because the improving of lessons and the use of technology.

Teachers should be aware of developing lessons to create design and decision-making involve three elements to teach and technology supports each one of these elements in teaching:

- Academic content (what to teach) the teachers to be taught a lesson in the framework of the curriculum and integrates the internet to learn new way of teaching.

-Teaching goals, method, and procedures (How to teach).

- Learning assessments (Knowing what students have learned).

The goals of the teachers that provide learning for management and effective lessons in three planning lessons: learning objective shows the emphasize outcome of students learning object to assessment the information and skills of the students capable of use in school.

Planning understand design (backward design) the teacher set her goals of the curriculum before choosing instructed methods. .in the chapter there are backward design that include three element for improving the curriculum. .

Using technology in lesson planning I agree with this point strongly because the using internet to plan lesson  helps the teacher to find information from around the world in short time and it provides  more than one way to teach.

I think using technology to make decision about meeting educational students in lesson plan is very useful to keep lesson in the curriculum framework of national, stat, and local curriculum. To be honest, it was little confused to understand the national curriculum standard, maybe it is quite different of Saudi standards.

How can teacher assess and evaluate students? This question contains a lot of information and through the chapter we can answer this question there are three facts that affect the teacher’s thinking when they assess and evaluate.

-              The teachers Evaluate in traditional way.

-              Standardized testing it helps to know the teacher’s ability to education. I have learned through this part of the chapter that the assessment is done in the end of the lesson and teacher assess students’ knowledge in a particular time in particular subject and evaluate the performance of the student in the classroom .moreover, to evaluate students’ knowledge we use multiple forms of evaluate data with national or state or local curriculum test.  In other hand evaluate performance will assess students activates and the assess test be in learning. The performance rubrics assess student work to know what we want from student to do in class or doing them homework.

In my opinion, technology save from lost time and effort for teachers to evaluate the students .Also, it helped the teacher to know the strength and weaknesses of each student to improve their performances.

Blog #2


                              Transforming learning with unique, powerful technology

In this chapter , I make it clear that the teacher should use modern technology to deliver information to student and these types include five ways- Visual learning , Accessing and Assessing information, Active collaboration and engagement, Feedback and Expressing creativity. I am really amazed by how the teacher build the new knowledge based on what they already know by taking the students to trace their shadow drawing because it is a clover method for unforgettable lessons , creatively thinking and discover what they need to learn.

According to science of learning implication of learning they are two approaches to learn one is called teacher – centered and second is called student- centered. Now, I know the different between them for the teacher-centered is a method that lectured by teacher to students and for the student-center is method that learning academic material in really life-situation. In my view ,I will go with student-centered more than teacher – centered because student – centered has more opportunity for thinking creatively , solve problem in real situation and excite more options for learning in inventive way. Also, student-centered has four learning method supported by technology ( One-to-one tutoring- inquiry learning –Metacognitive thinking-Learning group) I liked them all because it makes the students participation in learning whiter individually , in group , do authentic , active work or how to learn through self-explanation.

I agree with visual learning by using technology because student tack the lesson more clearly and assisted him to see the past, the present and future. For example, teacher exposure a video about what’s inside the human body .Normally, cannot see inside our body but visual technology allowed to see it. Another point, Technology assisted involving students in access information and assessing information but the student should be guide by teacher and to focus on critical evaluation for using information. teacher has to be aware of learning and giving attention on the student learning from external and internal focus on learning internal because it is the most important to build generation .One way is that students work in group and make them to be responsible and shears skills, knowledge in activity way.

In the chapter I have learned that feedback encourage learning by making mistake. I really liked the program  that help students to learn individually and correct his mistake if the students keep doing mistake the program lead the student step by step .SO, I think this program develop the student curiosity to solve the problem. Student can express them creative by writing in computer and computer can be used for communication. Also, by connecting with other student will have new idea and know the environment among him.

                                         Becoming a 21st century teacher

 

Teaching is important to build the future. A teacher has to have the skill of 21st century through the use of technology indifferent ways as Hilary and Anthary did when they integrate the technology in education and how it has affected on learning. I find to teach 21st century skills in class an interesting ways because it will emerge the student and the teacher to utilize technology every day inside or outside the school .Moreover that can allow them to improve in all aspect of life and learning to understand the best ways that do not make students dull. In the past, I was against to depend on technology to much in school but, after I read the chapter I recognized the benefit of having the technology in school I changed my mind because student rely on electronic in every single day at any age or any gender but some circumstances prevent students from using computer as they need. In the 21st century teacher become using technology in part of teaching.

I am unaware person when it comes to technology tools and using it in class .So, I found useful devices to school like Tablets, Smartphones and Laptops  each one has different features but has the same goal ,which is that the effect on student learning in and out school. From my experience in elementary school that the teacher did not use technology, I used technology when I enrolled university only to do homework after I go home the learning end. Now, I was surprised to know how technology emerge in every aspect of modern life. For example, in the chapter “teaching based on library-textbook-learning environment-office” all of this indicate that technology promote interactive of the student and teacher by making them thinking critical, creative problem solving , understand the world , teaching subject in anew ways and giving the opportunity for teacher to take her work any place.

I agree with the chapter when it said” learn technology while teaching academic content” because learning technology in one class cause confusion for students, but gradually learned helps the students to understand and get used to it once by once. If we notice that it is better to apply technology in school and work with a small group to enhance each other, to gain experience form each other by using technology.

In the end of the chapter , I have learned that the digital identity engaged to the teacher technology skills and knowledge .Also, it gives the opportunities and challenges of using technology creatively and help the students to be I Generation of technology . It is true that our children and professional nowadays use different types of digital and electronic technology in the social media every moment. So, we can not live without technology.
